Are you going to start a hosting business but not sure if you will be able to succeed? The best way for you to get into the hosting business would be to start with a reseller package. But how exactly?
There are hundreds and hundreds of web hosting companies that sell web space and bottom line is that all them are your competitors in the international market. Gone are those days when people wanted to host their websites in the country they lived in because accessing their websites was faster if their website was hosted on a server in their own country. So, how will you make money if there are a million companies to compete with?
Don’t start with a server: If you have money and willing to risk it, then only consider buying a server and start your business. Otherwise, stay away from it until you have a good number of customers and started making some money and profits. Most start-up hosting companies fail because they buy server and then don’t get customers, eventually they run out of budget by paying hefty rentals for the unused servers.
Get overselling right: The secret to making money with reseller hosting packages is by knowing how to split them and sell as many smaller packages as you can and still stay in profits. Don’t oversell too much, you will land yourself in trouble much sooner than you think. You should learn to define web hosting packages first. Another mistake most start-ups do is offering unlimited web hosting packages to attract a lot of customers, don’t do that.
Sell local then global: When you start, first target the local market, find businesses in your city, state and/or country and target them, market your business to them. Then think of marketing your business across the world or target one country at once. Ofcourse you could market your business across the globe the day you start and that is entirely upto you.
Have enough budget: Be prepared to run the show for at least 6 months to 1 year without making any profits. Not every hosting start-up will be successful in less than a year. Hosting business needs time and patience before you make money and become profitable. Hosting business is indeed a profitable business.
Build relationship: Don’t aim at making money overnight. Don’t even dream about making thousands of dollars in first few months. Make your customers happy and retain them. Do whatever you can to make your customers happy and they will get you more customers. Offer them goodies or extra month of hosting when they refer a potential customer to you.
